Life Skill- Palm Cake

The Students at ALOHA Learning Center are trained to make the palm cakes. This is part of their live skill where many people need to know. The teachers and staff here are working hard to guide them not just only the academic knowledge, but the social skills and some practical knowledge of local people as well.

Mr. Hem Soeun- ALC founder

All the three men are our ALC's family members and we knew that words could not describe how much love  our staff and children have for them.

ALC children and staff celebrated the traditional event on Saturday 10th 2021 to make offerings to monks to grant all the blessing for their new journey of peace.

ALC shares heartfelt condolences to all families and friends who are connected with our respected men.

VEGGIES AND PROGRESS OF AG PROJECT AT A.L.C

curly cabbage at ALC under the greenhouse

Agriculture project becomes routine tasks of everyone at Aloha Learning Center. The students now are capable in making their own composts and know how to fertilize the soil in the gardens. They start realizing the significant of the organic veggies for their health and safety. There were many health bulletins that provide the facts about the importance of green veggies toward the development of each people that were brought to the students at ALC to read for the better knowledge.

In Cambodia, many types of veggies are imported from neighboring countries. All of those veggies are not trustable for their original quality because of the vendors try to add more chemical items to store those veggies for a longer period of time and the authority does not care much about the quality of veggies sold in the market.

Producing our own veggies is the best choice even the cost might be little high due to the small scale of production. The real benefit of veggies program at ALC are the technique in growing veggies, composting, maintenance and the safe veggies for the kitchen for around 30 people in the ALC campus.

In medium term, ALC garden will be widening  to larger scale and expect to produce more veggies for commercial activities. During this period, we pilots some seasonal crops and also extend our study to the demand in the market around ALC.  We possibly consider about growing some herbs that would be used for health and local market as well.

Anyway, the productions is important but we could not set it as the primary tasks for them because of the children who come to ALC have one sharp goal is education and Ag project is just an additional class for them.

ALC appreciates comments, technical advices from everyone who wishes to give us the helping hand in making this project a productive one. It is with heartfelt thanks to generous donors who always support the project at ALC.

Bikes for kids

15 bikes purchased for kids at ALC

ALC welcomes all type of legal donation both locally and internationally. The main funding source to support the overall program is coming from the contribution of foster parents and generous people in Hawaii and around the globe through an international organization registered in the US called eGlobal Family. eGlobal Family board of director and board members are doing their best to provide financial support to ALC.  Every year, ALC called for participations from local people through the channel of relevant institutions, closed friends, families, and visitors to share responsibilities of helping poor students to reach their future goals.

This year, the academic years started late due to the pandemic of Covid-19. The management team of ALC announce the need of 15 bikes through social media by presenting the poster with the need of bikes and the contact numbers. Within few weeks, we got 4 generous people shared their love and cares for our students and donated bikes to fill up our need.

All the students are very happy to have their new bikes and ALC keep promoting our program to everyone and we hope the future of those disadvantage students would be much better in the coming future.

5 NEWS KIDS COME TO ALC

New kids from Kampong Chhnang province

The management team of ALC received several requests to provide supports to the orphaned and vulnerable children who are in a very critical need for their education and livelihood. The team finally selected two destinations to conduct site reviews and identified the right candidates to be accepted for the program at ALC. The first destination was located in Ou Mal village, Kampong Chhnang Province, where the team need to pass the severe hazard roads, potholes and take ferry to cross the river to reach the destination. The second destination is Prey Veng province. The team travelled by car and need to walk several kilometers to reach the villages where the roads for car is not accessible.

As a results, 5 kids from Kampong Chhnang and other five kids from Prey Veng were selected but only five kids from Kampong Chhnang who are adapting well to the new living environment at ALC and enjoying their studies with the existing students. For other five kids from Prey Veng, they decided to return to their community because they felt that they had less freedom for their living in the center. ALC processed the transfer of their schools and enrolled them to state school program as well as the class in ALC.

Vanna and Vannak are twin brother were living with the grandmother in a small zinc hut. The family is too poor to afford to send the children to high school. His older sister has dropped out of school since she was in 9th Grade and is working as a garment worker. Both Vanna and his twin brother usually spend their time from school working in the construction site to earn extra money to help the family.   Another boy is coming from a very poor family. His name is Phanith. His parents are still alive but too poor to afford to send him to school. The father does not have any regular job and the mother is jobless. The family has run into debt after the natural disaster destroyed their crops. Phanith has one sister and one brother but none of them were able to finish high school. His older sister and older brother have dropped of out school since they were in 9th Grade and the sister is working in garment factory and the brother is a motorbike repairer which are only able to support their food with very little saving.

Sokna is an orphan of father. The father has abandoned the family since she was too young. The mother married to another man and both of them have migrated into other province and are working as firewood cutters. Sokna has three brothers with whom one of them has the same father as her and one sister who has different father. Prior to coming to ALC, Sokna was living with the sick grandparents who have debts to micro finance. Sokna was not well taken care of and she is facing a very uncertain future because the family is too poor to afford to support her to continue her education.

Socheata is cousin to Sokna. Her parents are still alive but the family’s living condition is extremely poor. The parents have migrated into Thailand to find work and the income the parents earn are just for paying for debts. Socheata was not well taken care of and she is facing a very uncertain future same as her cousin.
